Joane Strang - Pewtersmith
Joane creates these beautiful pieces atTarzali, a small village
in a picturesque valley near the town of Malanda on the Atherton Tablelands.
She has been operating her business for many years in Australia. She learnt
her craft in Scotland working with her brother in-law who is an award-winning
jeweller and silversmith. Her Scottish background comes to the fore with a
collection of Celtic and Art Nouveau jewellery.
Her other jewellery and picture frames take inspiration from our own Australian
flora and fauna. She also commissioned Aboriginal artist Clive “Bidga” Atkinson
of the Yorta Yorta community in Victoria to produce a range of indigenous designs.
These are based on the traditional x-ray art of his region. She enjoys her
unique craft and is proud to say that all of her products are one hundred percent
Australian. The pewter that she uses is exclusively blended to her own specifications
by a Brisbane foundry and is entirely lead free.
Joane's pewter can be found
in galleries throughout Australia and overseas.
Whilst visiting with the Pewtermill Joane will gladly give you a personal
look at the way she produces her craft.
Homestay Accomodation

Town of Malanda. The location is in the heart of the beautiful Tablelands
tour destinations. Tarzali is approximately one and a half hours drive
